LaCl3(Ce) - Lanthanum Chloride (Ce) Scintillator Crystal

LaCl3(Ce) Scintillation Crystals

LaCl3(Ce) - Lanthanum Chloride - is a salt compound of lanthanum and chlorine and one of a new generation of inorganic scintillator based gamma radiation detectors. LaCl3(Ce) scintillators have fast light output decay times provide excellent energy resolution performance.

LaCl3(Ce) scintillator crystals have:

  • Fast decay times - 28nsec
  • High light outputs - 49,000 Photons/MeV
  • The capability to achieve excellent Energy Resolution (e.g. c.3.8%@662keV, 1″ Dia./1″ Long)
  • Optical outputs with good linearity with temperature
  • The capacity to deal with high count rates
  • Excellent radiation hardness

LaCl3(Ce) scintillator crystals - issues to be aware of:

  • Hygroscopic and therefore requires encapsulation

LaCl3(Ce) scintillator crystals are useful for applications suchas:

  • Security - cargo inspection
  • Medical - SPECT
  • Industrial - Well logging
  • Nuclear and high energy physics - specialist applications
